Homemade Chai Spice Blend

My Homemade Chai Spice Blend:

My homemade chai blend is the easiest way to spice up any tea. It's ready in minutes and tastes simply delicious! I like to mix it with chaga for my favorite chaga chai. I hope you enjoy it as well!

- 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2.5 tablespoons ground ginger
- 4 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
- 1/2 Tablespoon ground black pepper (or replace it with ⅔ of a tablespoon of the      wonderful Piper longum for a more complex and adaptogenic blend)
- 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 vanilla bean, split down the middle (optional)
- ¾ teaspoon star anise
- 2 tablespoons of licorice root powder (optional but also adaptogenic)

To prepare my chai spice blend, I simply put all the ingredients in a blender until the vanilla becomes a powder, then store it in an airtight jar for up to six months. If you don't use vanilla or opt for vanilla powder, you can just put all the ingredients in a jar and shake until well blended.

To make a tea with my chai blend, I steep 1/2 tsp for at least 3 minutes. The tea tastes better the longer it steeps, as the vanilla, licorice and anise take a little longer to fully develop their flavor. In summer, you can also add a spoonful to a liter of water and let it steep overnight in the refrigerator for a healthy refreshment.
